Seen in isolation, you may be forgiven for the belief that AFL is a speck of light in the vast (re)insurance universe. Indeed, casual observers are too often blinded by the glare from the few red giants that appear to dominate in the expanse.
In fact, a closer look at the small bright lights around these more obvious solar behemoths reveals intricate connections, collaborations and a network of flexibility and versatility that extends throughout the cosmos, even into unexplored areas in a way that may surprise you.
At the risk of extending the space metaphor further, you could say these specs of light appear to be working together – signs of intelligent life at last!
Culture of collaboration
On its own, AFL shines brightly thanks to our exceptional creative and technical talent. But our culture of collaboration and exploration means we are also proud to work together with our partners in the Worldwide Broker Network (WBN), the world’s largest fully integrated network of independent Insurance Brokers, expertly handling over $50 billion in premiums and counting.
Offering an alternative way of delivering multinational programmes for clients is the key focus for all WBN members. We can draw on our collective and ever-growing expertise with each country’s laws, regulatory landscape, and cultural considerations to find the most appropriate solutions for large, discerning clients.
Multinational clients deserve better than a one size fits all approach. High standards and a tailored, personal service are the hallmarks of the non-owned network model. While the large, international broking houses with wholly owned networks can be proficient in some core countries, they can also be let down by poorly performing offices elsewhere.
In contrast, the WBN pools access to a network of non-owned, independent centres of excellence that collaborate to offer the best of international insurance in a changing world. And the pace of that change is quickening, only the agile, tenacious and effective will keep up.

Membership of the progressive and proactive WBN network is just one of the many ways that we are growing and evolving as an independent. We are also exploring fresh frontiers for insurance – working to find a place for new, uncovered risks that are being created as our societies modernise, for instance, as well as seeking out and investing in insuretech innovationthrough our Incubator division.
Some might say we’re boldly going where no broker has gone before…
