AFL Insurance Brokers has further grown its reach in South America with the expansion of its operation in Brazil, including welcoming new team members for a strong local presence on the ground, writes AFL Brazil CEO Marcio Ribeiro.
Brazil’s reinsurance market is always transforming. Now the new government initiatives combined with regulatory reform and signs of economic recovery make the country a more open and flexible place to do business. Oil & Gas and Real Estate markets for example show some of these signs.
The Brazilian market looks set to maintain continuous, steady growth fuelled by a strong local presence of insurance and reinsurance players. However, there is still a big potential for growth taking consideration all the digital sources applicable to most lines of business. The non-life re/insurance sector in Brazil shows promise, with a 14% year-on-year increase in crop insurance alone in 2018, according to multinational professional services firm Ernst & Young.
But successfully navigating the regulatory and economic changes that are taking place is by no means guaranteed, and it is essential to have a strong, expert local presence combining experienced executives and fresh minds from the new generation. Another key aspect of our success is the independent Brazilian retail brokers who rely on us to access reinsurance capacity and new creative solutions for their clients.
That is why we are delighted that AFL has cemented its presence in Brazil by expanding our team on the ground in Sao Paulo. As a leading independent broker, we recognise how critical it is to maintain a strong multi aged, cultural and disciplined local team in order to fully support our clients in the country.
